ACTIVITIES REPORT

ANNUAL REPORT OF HANDICAPPED WELFARE INSTITUTION FOR THE YEAR 2021-22.

Handicapped Welfare Institution was physically established in the year 1981 in the undivided Balasore District. But subsequently after the establishment of Bhadrak District and therefore it was necessary to obtain a new registration number for the Institution located at Mission Compound, Balasore. It’s registration number is 4030-160/92-93 under Societies Registration Act and its registration number under PWD Act is 140/WCD of 2007/BBSR, Dtd. 21.08.2007

Three Special Schools are now functioning under this Institution with sanctioned strength of 126.

The break up is as follows:

1. School for the Deaf- 64 Student 2. School for the Blind- 34 Student 3. School for the M.R.- 28 Student

Out of 64 student in the School for the Deaf 4 have passed Class-VIII and 8 no. of students newly admitted in the School. All the students are boarders and all Three Schools are Residential Schools.

Vocational training is provided to the students in tailoring, Cane making, Phenyl making.

We observed world Disabled Day, Independence Day, Republic Day, Mentally Retarded Day. Louis Braille Day, Deaf Day, the Lord Ganesh Puja and the Lord Saraswati Puja.

We received Rs. 7,04,179/- as maintenance for the boarders from the Social Security & Empowerment Person with Disability (SS&EPD). Dept Govt. of ODISHA during this year 2021-22. The expenditure for the said amount was audited and the U.C. submitted to the Govt.

There are 11 approved teaching & non-teaching staff in the three Special Schools.

Annual Report for The Year 2020-21

The Schools were closed due to the Pandemic. 4nos of Mentally Retarded children are stying in the hostel. Non-teaching staff are staying to take care of them. During June at the time of admission, teachers were coming on roaster arrangement. Like other children SSEPD Dept. started online classes for the children. But most of the children dont have android phones. So it was difficult to teach them. Though very few have android phones they are with the parents. As most of the students are stying in their respective villages far from the town, network problem was also there.

Due to the panemic there are no exam for class promotion was there. All students have passed. Due to online class as the students was at home, we have distributed books & study materials either going to their home or their parents collected.

Our management is always trying to sanitize the premises, sanitizers, mask were given to all the staff working also to the students. Proper care of the all children is being taken in the schools by giving the precautionary medicine etc. Children and parents of the special schools was regularly monitered and awareness was created among them by counselling over phone. Also we distributed mask in public places to create awarenessalso donated 1000pcs of cotton masks to the

police(the frontline covid workers) who were rendering their extensive service to

the people during the pandemic.
Also visited the Isolation home meant for the migrant labours from the other state along with the district administration to supervise an counsell them to be mentally strong and teach them how to face this pandemic staying away from the family members.

Also distributed medicines, babyfood to the small children and medicine & proper diet to the pregnant lady also the senior citizens in the isolation ward. Extensively worked in Nilgiri & Sadar Block created awareness by distributing mask & sanitizers to the people.

On 30/05/2020 instructed by The Govt. of Odisha, Bande Utkala Janani was sung by the students, members and staff with the COVID-19 protocol.

All the national day like 15th August & Rpublic Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Childrens Day was observed in thr school with limited staff maintaining the COVID-19 guidelines.

During Amphan Cyclone, due to well prepardness no harm was there.

New Executive Committee was formed. Mr. Baidya Nath Sarangi was again selected as the President, meeting was conducted with covid protocol.

Online admission is going on due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Our pass out strength is 11(10 from school from the Deaf Section and 1 from

the Blind Section).

Annual Report for The Year 2019-20

The said Institution Handicapped Welfare Institution, Mission Compound has been functioning since 1981 consisting of three special Schools in the Undivided Balasore District. But after division of Balasore & Bhadrak District this institution got its fresh registration number in 92-93. Different eminent reputed persons are always associated will this Institution for the development of PWDs including Special Children in schools up to Class-VIII.

The students from throughout the district as well as from the adjacent districts like Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bhadrak etc, comes to these schools. As this is an residential schools children observe different festivals like Holi, Diwali, Raksha Bandhan, Saraswati Puja, Ganesh Puja, including Teachers Day & Children’s Day.

Hon’ble SSEPD, Minister Sri Ashok Kumar Panda visited the Institution, children participated in the district level parade competition and won 2nd Prize on the occasion of The Independence day.

• Also got a scope to admit a Three Legged Child with multiple disability namely Sudam Behera, S/o-Madhusudan Behera, of Kandipur, Oupada Block to the hospital and was taken to AIIMS, BBSR for the treatment & operated by the help from The Central Minister Sri Pratap Chandra Sarangi.

• 150h Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated along with The District Administration. A rally was organised on this occasion. Blind students sung an opening song on its occasion on the programme organised by District Administration.

• Mental health day was observed on 10th October.

• Children’s day “PALAK” was celebrated. Chairman Balasore Municipality along with other dignitaries were present during the programme.

Children participated in the District Level Para sports meet, held on 19/11/2019.

• On 27/11/2019 Sri. Anshuman Sahoo from school for the deaf accompanied by P.E.T Pravash Ranjan Raj participated in the State Level Para Sports Meet.

• World disable day was observed along with District Administration. Children participated in different cultural programme and competition.

• Annual sports meet of the institution was organised on 5th & 6th of December.

6 children was participted in the district level sports meet on 15th, 16th & 17th of December.

On the occasion of Republic Day, children participated in the cultural programme and parade in the district level and won 1st Prize. Hon’ble Minister Revenue Sri Sudam Marandi visited the orgnisation.
Sign Language Day was observed on Thursday 19th of September.

• On 3rd of March in presence of CDMO, Balasore, an awareness Camp was organised for the Deafness Control.

• School remain closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic from the middle of the March-2020.
